Bifurcation,
ecstatic moments, ontological crisis, quantum
leaping are all the funny names we use for that
point in the road or in the journey when one
segment of our life dies and another is born.It is
the moment when every aspect of who we are gets
called into question. Like the wake up call of a
screaming siren, we are jolted into a new level
of awareness. It's the reminder that ordinary
people are capable of extraordinary growth. But why
then, do some people appear to be quantum
leaping and others feel as if they are standing
still?It's
about courage and strength of character. When we
lack the courage to be fully engaged in life,
the miracles seem oblivious to us -- they pass
us unnoticed. We are too busy protecting
ourselves from risk, anticipated pain or
feelings.The
windows and opportunities for growth are hidden
behind substance, food, serial relationships and
the fear of change of self-examination.At some
point, each of us must make a decision that is
better to die with integrity in the quest for
consciousness, than to live a lifetime in
mediocrity and disconnection.Once we
get to that exquisite decision, we realize that
grace and immense love always meet heroic
efforts and courageous hearts. It is in that
decision that we are finally able to see that
anything we have given up for the sake of growth
and grace is always replaced with blessings
beyond our belief. This is
because it is your natural state to be glorious
and coming home to it again is like slipping on
a warm pair of old slippers or finding a
long-lost friend --You.
Since I
was a child, I have longed for love. Inherently
I knew that it existed, even though it took a
detour when scheduled to arrive at my home.As I
became more aware, I knew that love entered into
the center of sacred connections where truth
lived. I knew that love made anything --
everything -- sacred. I knew
that that love turned words into prayers, anger
into forgiveness and fear into courage. I
knew that love from, or with, anyone stopped the
agony of longing and not yet finding. I knew
that love was not need, control or ownership.I knew
that love was openness, acceptance and
compassion. I knew that love was a celebration,
a reunion with the Divine. I knew
that love heals, renews, inspires and empowers
us to act with courage and character.I knew
that falling in love was an act of Spirit. I knew
that love had less to do with desire and more to
do with holiness, comfort and grace. But,
until I was a woman of age, I didn't know that
love was all there is and everything else is an
illusion based on fear. I didn't
know that in order to have love -- all I had to
do was be it.
In
almost every era there has been one remarkable
human being who forever changed the world. Each
of these people no doubt had an opportunity to
make one decision that went directly to the
place inside that held the one highest truth in
that person.It takes
one note to start a song, one smile to change a
day, and one "I'm truly sorry," to stop a
fight. You can
eradicate darkness with one tiny flame from a
candle. You can overcome hate with one act of
love. It takes one smile to begin a friendship
or one kiss to start a lifetime together.
One tree no doubt started the forest and one
breath, a life. It takes one word to start each
prayer or mantra. In the
din of chaos or confusion, it takes only one
voice to return to wisdom. It takes one act of
righteousness or courage to start a movement.
It takes one song to make you remember and one
card to make you cry. It takes only one person
who cares to make you want to try harder and
only one who loves you to make you want to stay
on the planet and play. It can
take one touch to show you care and one voice of
hope to make it possible to take the final
step. One vote
can change a nation and one moment of insight, a
reality. One truth can shatter illusion, while
one idea can create a vision. A single notion
can create an exploration. One question can
begin a whole dialog and one more new
philosophy. Throughout
our life we seek the one perfect beloved, the
one right moment to meet him or her and the one
right song that says it all. We look for the one
space in which to be safe and the one career
that will bring us satisfaction. We long
to fulfill the one purpose for which we came.
Sometimes it takes only mentor, teacher, guru or
one compassionate soul to give us one glimpse of
the truth that we are worthy enough, lovable
enough and able to make a difference in the
world. It takes
one look at a new born to know that some Divine
Source exists in the Universe and only one kiss
of puppy breath to know that it is surely love.
Most - no, not yet - buy many of us finally
understand that there is only one of us
manifesting in a multitude of different hues,
countries, lifestyles and different forms.So,
perhaps this New Year, you and I could take one
moment amidst all those New Year resolutions and
Holiday toasts to say one prayer of thanks, to
speak one word of peace on behalf of the earth
and do one act of good will toward
another. Perhaps
we could choose to take that one step toward our
beloved, a family member or friend, make that
one decision that brings greater unity or
creates one moment that evokes healing. Be the
one.
